Is it really “Trust Issues”?

Growing up I heard this term, “Trust Issues”, often and it became engrained in my psyche as my own “truth”. Fast forward from childhood through high school (trust issues), college (trust issues), marriage, divorce, dating…you got it, the nagging “trust issues” troll reared its ugly head. Even into my late thirties, I remember telling someone I have trust issues. It’s such a strange concept to me now. The term itself, the premise behind it, and the overall ugliness of the phrase is a concept and mindset that can be transformed.

Using the phrase was simply a learned behavior that created victim mentality, excuses, reasons to blame others, acceptance of “it is what it is” (another phrase to unpack another day), and overall limiting beliefs. And I simply didn’t want to live that narrative anymore. Guess what? You don’t have to either. You have the power to change your thoughts and beliefs and reprogram your mindset; to be free and empowered to create the life you want.

What I’ve learned through my healing journey—therapy, worthiness practice, prayer, meditation, journaling, reading, and realizing my true self-worth—is that this phrase—“trust issues”—is actually a mask. It’s learned behavior and it’s not about trust in others (or lack thereof) at all. It is actually about the lack of trust in yourself. Once you learn to trust yourself, believe in yourself, and truly know yourself and your own value, the trust grows within. And those pesky “issues” just melt away. While it maybe easier said than done, depending on your circumstances, remember that it’s not impossible (nothing really is). You simply have to have the desire to create a different reality and to reprogram your thinking. Just as wildflowers sprout and blossom under most any conditions, trust can be developed through consistent positive actions that allow you to grow in your own environment despite the conditions surrounding you.

If you struggle with trust issues, self doubt, limiting beliefs, or anything resembling these, I can help answer any questions and even help you find your way to your own truth. I look forward to connecting with you.
